HEALTH NEWS

  • Sarasota Memorial Hospital is testing a new device called aXess to help dialysis patients by reducing complications for those with end-stage kidney disease. Vascular surgeon Dr. Jason Wagner leads the study, which will enroll up to 140 patients 18 or older who need dialysis within the next six months — interested individuals should call the research team at 941-917-2225.  Observer

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On October 16, the Development Review Committee gave partial sign-off for the Zenith tower project at Five Points; the plan will replace the 12-story office building and parking garage with two mixed-use towers that add 96 units—including seven affordable—and 41,837 square feet of commercial space. Meanwhile, Midtown Plaza needs a third submission to approve plans for a 145‑room hotel, 91‑unit apartment, retail space and parking, while Modera Sarasota’s rezoning for a former hotel site received partial approval.  Observer

  • High school volleyball teams in Sarasota and Manatee counties face tough road matchups in the regional playoffs — only Braden River will play at home.
