- ➤ A Maryland Girl Scout donated $77.04 with a handwritten note to the Community Foundation after raising funds by selling lemonade and hot chocolate from last fall until April. The donation helps boost hurricane relief funds as another Atlantic hurricane season approaches—showing that everyone can give back. Observer

- ➤ Today, Asolo Rep closes its season with Jesus Christ Superstar, a vibrant rock opera featuring Heath Saunders as Judas and Jesse Nager as Jesus. - ➤ USF Sarasota-Manatee hosted its third annual Educator Signing Day—where five graduates signed contracts to teach in Manatee County elementary schools—celebrating the strong partnership between the college and local districts. - ➤ Five Sarasota County Schools teachers received the Barancik Foundation’s Ripple Effect Award — a $5,000 gift recognizing their impact in and out of the classroom. - ➤ The SBA announced that low-interest disaster loans are available to small businesses and private nonprofits in Sarasota, Manatee and other affected counties after Hurricane Milton on Oct. 9-10—these loans can cover bills and working capital even when no physical damage occurred, though they exclude most agricultural producers. - ➤ Residents off Bell Avenue said overgrown ditches nearly flooded their homes last hurricane season—calls for help were not answered. County officials said contractors will start clearing the ditches this week and commissioners will examine options for a new stormwater division next month—hoping to prevent future flooding. FOX 13
