- ➤ Longboat Key Garden Club hosted its ninth Dinner and a Movie fundraiser Friday night at Bayfront Park—where community members watched Top Gun: Maverick, enjoyed a meal from Chef Caldwell's, and joined a live auction—to raise funds for post-hurricane restoration and beautification projects. - ➤ Sarasota police reported a nearly 22% drop in crimes at the end of 2024 as Chief Troche credited almost 200 officers, new technology, 2,700 arrests, and 245 firearms removed—he hopes to boost the team as the city grows. ABC 7

- ➤ Azara Ballet is a new nonprofit dance company in Sarasota started by dancers who faced body-image challenges and mental health struggles — the group will perform its show Momentum on March 28 and March 29 at the Manatee Performing Arts Center with pieces addressing bullying and screen addiction. - ➤ Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has raised 82% of the $60.9 million needed for Phase Two, which will add a hurricane-resilient conservatory, a learning pavilion and expanded gardens. The project will break ground by the end of 2025 and finish in 2027 (total funds have topped $114 million largely through private donations). Sarasota Magazine
- ➤ Azara Ballet uses dance to address screen addiction in its second season final performance '7 Hours,' choreographed by co-founder Martin Flowers—cellphones serve as props to show how technology can disconnect people. - ➤ From March 18 to 20, Longboat Key Fire Rescue practiced vehicle extrication techniques using the Hurst Jaws of Life in a simulated single-vehicle crash to learn how to safely remove a victim. The nine-person crew led by two lieutenants and firefighter paramedics conducted a full 360 observation of hazards — a key step in determining safe entry for treatment — and improved their readiness for real emergencies.
