  • On Saturday, March 14, the Historical Society and Gillespie Park Neighborhood Association will lead a tour of six gardens in Gillespie Park featuring Craftsman, Mediterranean, farmhouse and mid-century modern homes. Tickets cost $20 and are sold at Crocker Memorial Church (1260 12th St.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Sarasota Magazine

  • In Sarasota’s Limelight District, The Resource Factory makes fiberglass sculptures for global clients such as Nickelodeon and Disney; co-owned by Scott and Shannon Hamblin (with a 15-person team), it uses handcrafting and computer tools and will soon begin a new Nintendo project in Singapore.  Sarasota Magazine

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sarasota County Fair opens March 13 (in the 6,600 sqft Potter Building) to display nearly 2,000 creative entries across eight arts and crafts divisions, while the volunteer committee invites high school students to join the effort.  Sarasota Magazine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hurricane Melissa tied a record with 190 mph winds and mostly spared local areas; a relief plane crash in Coral Springs caused two indirect deaths. The storm ended the 2025 season on a record note+ officials are reviewing recovery efforts.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • A total lunar eclipse will be visible in Sarasota tomorrow, March 3, from 3:44 a.m. to 6:54 a.m. ET when the moon will turn a coppery shade with max viewing at 6:33 a.m. ET + spectators need no special eyewear.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
