- ➤ The annual tree lighting at Selby Five Points Park drew a large crowd on Dec. 6 as community members joined the Fresh Fridays Light Up the Night block party (featuring live music and treats from local businesses) to kick off the holiday season. Observer
- ➤ Weather permitting, SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 today from pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center to send 29 Starlink satellites into orbit, offering coastal Florida residents a chance to see the rocket light up the sky from areas ranging from Brevard to Vero Beach. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ Sarasota Police removed a 26-foot derelict boat that had been swamped for over three years from Hudson Bayou on Monday — the owner will face a misdemeanor public nuisance charge and be billed for recovery and removal costs. Observer

- ➤ Florida Studio Theatre announced an anonymous $1 million gift on Dec.4 to start a matching donation campaign for phase two of its McGillicuddy Arts Plaza expansion; donations will be doubled + donors will help fund two new cabaret theaters scheduled after Act 1 opens in August 2027. Observer

- ➤ Florida opened its first bear hunting season in more than a decade today, and the 23-day season aims to manage the growing black bear population. The season was approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. ABC 7
