- ➤ Longtime Save Our Seabirds volunteer Mattie Watson was nominated for the Haley Hall of Fame Award by Visit Sarasota County for her work teaching about local birds. She will find out if she wins the award at the Indicators—Insights Summit on Nov. 18. Observer
- ➤ Residents in the Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and North Port area can submit their holiday light displays to be added to a community map—one that will be published online on Nov. 23 and featured in the print newspaper on Dec. 14. - ➤ Giancarlo Guerrero starts his first full season as music director of the Sarasota Orchestra today and will lead six Masterworks concerts while the orchestra gets ready to move into a new Music Center planned for eastern Sarasota County at a cost of $375–425M. - ➤ Visit Sarasota County data showed that September visitor numbers dropped by 15% compared with last September, with direct spending and economic impact falling despite a 4.4% rise in hotel rates — the report noted only small increases in international visitors while local drive travelers declined. This trend suggests the county lost 14,200 visitors and $9.6 million in direct spending compared to last year. Observer
