- ➤ Five Manatee County high school seniors advanced to the National Merit finalist stage after a competitive process that drew over 1.3 million test-takers, with final selections coming in February. New Palmetto Police Department officers were sworn in while the Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team defended its Founders Cup championship and longtime Blake Hospital physician Dr. Michael King was honored for more than 30 years of service—showing local achievements in education, public safety and healthcare. - ➤ Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce is helping local leaders by offering its popular Leadership Sarasota program, which received over 100 applications for 45 spots and will mark its 40th anniversary on Oct. 9 at the Gator Club — a sign of its work to keep people working together with respect —. - ➤ Local resident Holly Macario published her memoir Letters From Lucy: Reflections on Life, Love and Human Relations on Sept. 1, compiling 30 letters written by her beloved dog Lucy during her battle with illness in summer 2024.
