🎓 Education
A former senior administrator at New College is trying to privatize the school because he says its heavy reliance on state funding is unsustainable.
Nathan Allen, who worked with President Richard Corcoran, has proposed a roadmap spanning ten years—featuring a tuition hike and $70 million in startup capital—to shift the college away from taxpayer dollars.
🏛️ Government
The North Port City Commission approved a property tax rate of 3.776 mills for the sixth year in a row, with property values increasing 8.9% and generating an extra $3 million in revenue.
The commission also approved new fee rates for special districts — a final vote on the budget, tax rate, and fees is scheduled for 5:01 p.m. Sept 18.
