- ➤ Costco expanded its shopping hours for Executive Members nationwide after Labor Day. Stores now open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.—all members also get an extra hour on Saturday evenings. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Diana Stevens, the former owner of a Sarasota pet grooming shop on Tamiami Trail, pleaded no contest to five misdemeanor animal cruelty charges and was sentenced to five years probation—she is banned from owning dogs or grooming pets and must complete 250 hours of community service while undergoing a mental health evaluation and anger management course. - ➤ Lillian Blades’ exhibition 'Through The Veil' is featured at the Sarasota Art Museum where colorful, mosaic plastic veils fill the gallery space—inviting visitors to experience layered reflections with the natural light. - ➤ A forensic art workshop at Ringling College—led by veteran forensic artist Joe Mullins—is helping solve cold cases as student Noah Shadowens used 3D-printed remains and clay to reconstruct a face that allowed law enforcement to identify Shane Michael Williams, whose case has been closed as an accidental death. - ➤ Florida officials are reviewing a proposal to name a portion of U.S. Highway 41 after Dickey Betts—the Allman Brothers Band co-founder who died in April 2024 and had deep ties to the area; Sarasota County commissioners will submit a formal request to the Florida Department of Transportation, and the segment near Osprey is seen as a likely choice.
