- ➤ Residents participated in the Newtown Community Cleanup on Aug. 23 at Newtown Estates Park and Dr. Martin Luther King Way to remove 23.99 tons of debris and keep neighborhoods safer during hurricane season. County officials noted this event is part of a fiscal-year effort that has cleared 149 tons of debris—an important step in managing waste. Observer

- ➤ Local artists, business owners and nonprofit leaders gathered today on Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota to protest a new state mandate that will remove beloved sidewalk art. The SEE Alliance will convert its parking lot into an art space — even though research shows that such art can help drivers stay safe. Sarasota Magazine
