ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ One person died when a fire broke out in a camper trailer in the 200 block of Tamiami Trail at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday morning in Nokomis—officials said the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. ABC Action News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers from Mote Marine and Longboat Key Turtle Watch excavated an already‐hatched loggerhead nest on Longboat Key on July 21 and counted 87 shells while experts recorded a record 1,460 nests as of August 3—promising signs point to a potentially record‐breaking season. Observer
- ➤ A living wall project at Bayfront Park on Longboat Key is nearly complete and has started to attract small sea stars and crabs to its printed concrete panels—designed to mimic red mangrove roots—to filter water and boost quality. Film students from Ringling College of Art and Design are documenting the progress while Kearns Construction Company will add the final panels soon. Observer

- ➤ Sarasota City Commission voted down a plan to build a 275-unit apartment building on Temple Beth Shalom land on Monday — the proposal would have enabled a $12.5M property sale that needed a supermajority change to the growth plan. The developer said it will keep trying to rezone using Florida’s Live Local Act — while local groups worry about more traffic and loss of green space. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
