The Sarasota County School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 28 at Wellen Park High School (10801 Manasota Beach Rd in North Port).
The new school will open Aug. 10 and serve students from Venice, North Port, and Englewood.
Bayshore High's baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award (3.62 GPA) on Aug.
2, marking the first time the Bruins have received the honor. Head coach Mike Rupp credited the players' classroom discipline as they began the new school year.

Marsha Panuce, founder of Donte’s Den & host of Animal Outtakes, advised pet owners that bathing dogs once a month preserves natural oils and keeps coats healthy.
She noted that dogs playing in mud or sand may need extra baths and regular brushing, as discussed on ABC7 News at Noon.

A new RCLCO report reveals that three master planned communities in Sarasota ranked among the nation’s top four for home sales.
Lakewood Ranch (recording 1,064 sales) is the nation’s top-selling multigenerational community, while Wellen Park and Babcock Ranch also ranked highly.

Dozens of Special Olympics Florida athletes competed at Bowlero (Cortez Rd West) on Sunday, vying for a spot in the state championship in Orlando scheduled for Sept.
18-19. Regional Director Jessica Ott said the event showcased weeks of training and local volunteer support.
