A 70-year-old woman died when she failed to properly negotiate a left curve on SR-72 east of Daugherty Road in Nokomis—her car hit a fence and overturned, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

North Port police are investigating the hit-and-run that destroyed two mailboxes on the 7800 block of Meroni Boulevard—elderly residents discovered the damage Saturday and the officers replaced the mailboxes with their own funds.
