- ➤ A roundup of events is planned for the week from July 31 to August 6 in Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and Longboat Key. Residents and visitors can enjoy a mix of circus shows, live theater, cabaret, comedy, and art exhibits at local venues — options designed for all ages. Observer
- ➤ Sarasota Players will perform Cabaret at its temporary venue in The Crossings at Siesta Key mall from July 31 through Aug. 10, offering a provocative show set in a Berlin nightclub as the Nazis tighten their grip during Weimar Germany. The production is led by Brian Finnerty and Amanda Heisey and will feature a round stage with VIP tables (complete with champagne and a charcuterie board) that have already sold out. Observer

- ➤ City Manager Dave Bullock said the city spent $20 million on hurricane recovery, which brought the general fund balance down to less than $18 million—below its policy limits.
