CRIME NEWS

  • A Sarasota man, Christopher A. Borchardt, 25, was arrested on Friday after twice robbing the USF Credit Union branch at 3487 Clark Road on June 20 and July 18—no one was hurt and officials say a multi-agency investigation that included the FBI is ongoing.  Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The FOX Forecast Center is tracking two areas for tropical development over the next 10 days — one near Africa and one along the Southeast and Gulf coasts — as forecast models show rising air patterns may boost storm activity in early August.  FOX 13

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Nearly 60% of new homes and condos built in Sarasota and Manatee counties in 2023 were in special taxing districts led by developers who passed long-term fees and debt to homeowners—leaving buyers with fewer choices and higher costs. The analysis shows that in Manatee County over 90% of new builds fell in these districts, which have grown as available land shrank.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
