- ➤ On July 20, leaders from The Paradise Center and Longboat Island Chapel announced that the community center will move to the chapel after August as it ends classes at its Tidewell building due to rising rent and needed renovations from last October’s hurricane damage. Organizers noted the move is a homecoming (the center began at the chapel in 2008) and said new programs will start once renovations are complete. Observer
- ➤ The Sarasota County Fire Department has restarted its monthly open house events so families can meet firefighters and learn fire safety. The events run every month on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—featuring hands-only CPR, AED instructions, free bike helmets, and car seat safety tests. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ Florida Gov. DeSantis signed HB7031 — a $1.3 billion tax cut package — that extends the month-long back-to-school tax holiday from Aug. 1–31, letting parents save on tax-free clothing, bags and school supplies.
