- ➤ Last Saturday, the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market blocked Lemon Avenue and Main Street to host nearly 80 local vendors offering fresh baked bread, handmade jewelry, tie-dyed clothing, and copper art rain or shine. Vendor Andrea Meythaler of Bambooty Bodygear said the event builds a strong sense of community—especially as vendors work together during hurricanes. Observer

- ➤ Florida Studio Theatre’s Sarasota Improv Festival will run on July 18–19 under new improv director Sarah Durham, building on the event started in 2009 by Managing Director Rebecca Hopkins. Seventeen troupes will present smart, musical and narrative-driven shows that bring fresh ideas to the evolving art of improv. Observer

- ➤ Lake Manatee K-8 in Lakewood Ranch will open on August 11 as the district’s first K-8 school and will ease crowding at older schools serving a 2 square mile zone. Principal Todd Richardson and his team have hired 52 staff — over 500 students are enrolled so far as they prepare for the new 2025-26 school year. Observer
- ➤ The new Skye Ranch School held a ribbon cutting on July 15th and will open in early August for 750 students from kindergarten to sixth grade. The state-of-the-art facility offers a robust STEM curriculum with a focus on science, mathematics, and robotics and is designated as an EHPA Shelter (to serve as an evacuation center if needed) with public access to its track and sports courts.
