- ➤ Sarasota County Libraries are offering free summer programs for all ages—ranging from theater and robotics workshops to reading challenges available at 10 libraries until August 2. - ➤ Former Rays pitcher Edwin Jackson, who played for 14 MLB teams, now co-owns a new Raining Berries coffee shop—located at Southside Village in Sarasota—with NFL Super Bowl champion Kenneth Gainwell. - ➤ Florida Studio Theatre entertainers held an outdoor improv show at Waterside Place on June 20 where the audience provided ideas such as potholes, backgammon, and folding laundry. - ➤ Town Manager Howard Tipton said the undergrounding project ended on June 23 with the removal of one of the last utility poles, marking a key milestone in a long 10-year effort to improve public utilities. Mayor Ken Schneier explained that over 1,100 poles, 743,000 feet of wiring, and other upgrades were completed on time and $6 million under budget—showing a bright future for Longboat Key. Observer
- ➤ After a national search, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority named Paul Hoback Jr. as the new president and CEO of SRQ. He is scheduled to begin on Oct. 19 and replace Rick Piccolo, who will retire on Nov. 30—staying on as an advisor through June 30, 2026. Sarasota Magazine
- ➤ Paul Hoback Jr. has been named president and CEO of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport—he is scheduled to start on Oct. 19, succeeding Rick Piccolo who will retire on Nov. 30 and serve in an advisory role until June 30. Hoback, currently executive vice president at Pittsburgh International Airport—bringing 25 years of aviation leadership—will lead the airport as it plans for future growth. Observer
