- ➤ A broken down tractor trailer stalled in the center lane on I-75 near the US-301 off-ramp yesterday morning in Manatee County—causing over 4 miles of backup and a 25-30 minute delay. ABC 7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rock stars Steven Tyler and Joe Perry had lunch at Morton's Gourmet Market in Southside Village, Sarasota, last Thursday and snapped a photo that has fans discussing a possible Aerosmith reunion. Joe Perry is set to perform with his project starting Aug. 13 at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Event Center—fueling speculation even though Aerosmith retired from touring last year. - ➤ Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium announced that the current Mote Aquarium on City Island will close to the public on Sunday, July 6. Staff will begin preparing for the new Mote Science Education Aquarium at Nathan Benderson Park on July 7 — the opening date has not yet been set. FOX 13

- ➤ Longboat Key has named Russ Mager as its new police chief—he will officially begin on August 4, replacing interim chief Frank Rubino. Mager, who led Delray Beach Police since 2022 for 29 years, will be introduced to the Town Commission on June 27. ABC 7
- ➤ Florida Gov. DeSantis is set to review a $1.3 billion tax package that would end the disaster preparedness tax holidays by implementing a permanent sales tax cut on emergency supplies — including batteries, generators and more. The measure would also transform the back-to-school tax break into a month-long holiday in August, letting residents save on basic supplies before school begins. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
