- ➤ Investigators from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to a jet ski collision at Lido Beach last night—two individuals were taken to the hospital as trauma alerts. ABC 7

- ➤ Scientists report that the Asian needle ant—spotted near Tallahassee and the Kennedy Space Center—has a sting that can bring intense pain and may trigger life-threatening allergic reactions in some people. The invasive ants are spreading in wooded areas across the U.S. and could harm native species and local biodiversity. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, Sarasota Memorial Hospital is one of the first to offer Aquablation therapy using the Hydros Robotics System—an FDA-approved treatment that employs AI and a heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue from men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. The hospital treated four patients earlier in June, and all went home the same day with minimal discomfort. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ Sarasota Memorial Hospital marked a milestone on June 13 during a wall signing ceremony for its 7-story expansion of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at the new Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion — the facility will open early 2026 and connect to the inpatient Oncology Tower with a pedestrian bridge over Waldemere Street. ABC 7

- ➤ The Sarasota Planning Board recommended Sage Park townhomes on the former Circus City site along Beneva Road following a 3—2 vote on June 11, allowing national builder DR Horton to build 83 townhomes on a 7.5 acre site that was rezoned in August 2024.
