  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that takes effect July 1 and bans elementary and middle school students from using cell phones during school hours—high school students may only use phones outside of class for educational purposes unless a pilot program in six districts tests a full ban. The law also directs an evaluation of how these restrictions affect student behavior and achievement by the end of 2026.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1105 that will ban cellphone use in schools for kindergarten to eighth graders effective July 1 and launch a pilot program for high school students in six counties, while also easing the process for converting public schools to charters by requiring only majority parental consent and allocating a proportional share of local government infrastructure surtax revenues. Officials say the law’s impact on student focus and school funding will be closely tracked statewide—continuing a debate over classroom safety and academic performance.  Z105
