- ➤ The Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation approved $6 million in grants to help local nonprofits improve education, assist vulnerable residents, strengthen arts and culture programs, and support environmental initiatives. The awards, which range from $85,000 to $900,000, will fund projects at organizations such as Suncoast Science Center and Sarasota Music Conservatory — expanding early learning, mental health, and community support services. - ➤ Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that takes effect July 1 and bans elementary and middle school students from using cell phones during school hours—high school students may only use phones outside of class for educational purposes unless a pilot program in six districts tests a full ban.
