- ➤ A’s Giant Sandwiches reopened its longtime family-owned restaurant at a new Gulf Gate location on May 18 next to Moondoggy’s Saloon. The eatery, known for serving locals since the 1960s, relocated from its former home on Tamiami Trail. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ Sixteen high school singers competed last Sunday at the Sarasota Opera House in the national vocal competition presented by Schmidt Vocal Arts. Three finalists from Florida came from Stuart, Miami and Boynton Beach, and each finalist received $1,000 while top finishers earned extra cash prizes. ABC 7
