- ➤ Longboat Key officials say the 2025 hurricane season starts today with a 60% chance of an above-average season, as NOAA forecasts 13 to 19 storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes, and 3 to 5 major hurricanes while the Climate Adaptation Center predicts 17 named storms, 10 hurricanes and 5 major storms. The town is holding disaster preparedness seminars and urging residents to have evacuation plans, secure essentials and move vehicles to higher ground—steps meant to protect homes and families.
