- ➤ The owners of Tampa's Michelin-starred Kōsen are opening upscale Japanese restaurant Zōtō in the space formerly occupied by Bento Asian Kitchen at University Town Center later this summer. Chef Lwin Siss leads the kitchen and the restaurant will offer izakaya small plates and a cocktail program focused on Japanese whisky — it will feature a 60-seat dining room, a 50-seat outdoor patio, and plans for a hidden omakase room called Yūgen in phase two. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The EPA approved a permit for Ocean Era to launch its Velella Epsilon project offshore Sarasota, where 20,000 red drum will be raised in an underwater pen 40 miles from the beaches. The permit covers operations from June 15, 2027 to July 7, 2027 and sets strict limits on water discharges—ensuring minimal impact on surrounding areas. Observer

- ➤ North Port will host the Hurricane Expo this Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center at 1602 Kramer Way — local emergency management, the National Weather Service, shutter companies and volunteer groups will offer free presentations and services to help residents prepare for hurricane season — and the event is free. - ➤ Sarasota County homeowners whose homes were damaged by Hurricanes Ian, Debby, Helene or Milton may now apply for help through the Resilient SRQ Housing Recovery Program—residents must fill out a survey online to start the process and will receive assistance with repairs, reimbursements and inspections as funding remains available.
