- ➤ Sarasota man Trang Johnny Nha Phan was indicted in Tampa for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a U.S. Army tank on display outside VFW Sunshine Post 3233 on Tuttle Avenue on Feb. 14 + he faces up to 65 years in federal prison if convicted. ABC 7

- ➤ Forecast models from WeatherTiger predict an above-normal hurricane season for 2025 with 16—20 tropical storms, 7—9 hurricanes, and a high chance of U.S. landfall risk according to chief meteorologist Ryan Truchelut. Warmer northern Atlantic waters and shifting steering patterns may increase these risks, so residents are urged to review their storm preparations. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ Longboat Key’s five-year capital plan includes drainage improvements with $1.4 million set for Norton Street Drainage Construction in fiscal year 2026 and other low-lying areas in Sleepy Lagoon — survey work began on May 19 for several streets. Town officials are waiting for the federal design grant process to close before moving on to construction grant applications. Observer
- ➤ The City of Sarasota was awarded an international honor for its Smart City initiative that uses traffic cameras and artificial intelligence to track near-misses, illegal crossings, and driver speeds at key intersections including Fruitville Road and Lemon Avenue.
