- ➤ The Environmental Conservancy of North Port is trying to raise $4,300 by May 31 to purchase a quarter-acre lot off Armour Terrace that would double the size of the Kathleen Belleville Nature Preserve—marking its 47th protected property and expanding habitat for Florida Scrub-jays and gopher tortoises. - ➤ The city of Sarasota announced that its parking garages on Palm Avenue, State Street and St. Armands will convert to a gateless system on June 17 by removing physical gates and installing cameras to record license plates for fee enforcement. Motorists will have 15 minutes to pay using a mobile app or pay station—officials said the change is expected to improve traffic flow. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
