- ➤ After a six-month closure, best friends Kim Duffy and Sandi Wagner reopened Toasted Mango in the Rosemary District at 1371 Boulevard of the Arts with a new cocktail menu and its classic breakfast and lunch items — the reopening follows delays from construction and permit issues. The restaurant now welcomes customers seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and features its award-winning waffle topped with mangoes, coconut and whipped cream. Sarasota Magazine

- ➤ Lakewood Ranch High School's music department received the Support Music Merit Award from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for the 2024-2025 school year, making it one of two Florida schools among 87 honored nationwide. The band's record-breaking indoor percussion score and top-ranked jazz band — evidence of staff and student dedication in detailed funding and community outreach efforts — underscore the program's commitment to musical excellence. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Longboat Key Turtle Watch said human removal of the orange stakes marking turtle nests on Greer Island is causing some nests to be lost from the Mote Marine Laboratory database—volunteers now are working with local officials to protect nesting turtles as activity increases. Pool owners are also advised to fence exposed pools following storm damage to keep turtles safe. Observer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law that stops police and FWC officers from pulling over boats solely to check safety gear unless there is probable cause+ the law sets up a Florida Freedom Boater decal for registration and will take effect on July 1. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ On Monday, the Sarasota City Commission approved a plan amendment that changes the land use at part of Mira Mar Plaza to pave the way for an 18-story mixed-use project behind the historic building. The move clears the path for a rezoning vote in July that will let the developer restore the nearly 100-year-old property — while addressing local concerns about scale and neighborhood impact. - ➤ The City of Sarasota has installed a new gateless parking system at all three City parking garages and it will start operating on Tuesday, June 17. The system requires drivers to pay within 15 minutes of entering—enforcement hours have been extended from 7:30 a.m. until each garage closes and the fee structure stays the same. ABC 7
