- ➤ Popular Osprey restaurants Mad Moe’s Sports Pub & Grill and Local Pizza were sold in a $4.5 million deal on May 18, with new owners Mike Evanoff & Fred DiSanto acquiring the properties while Local Pizza continues to be operated by Morgan Glickman. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ Tracy Calabrice, a Montreal teacher, is opening Amalfi Bakehouse at 2139 Siesta Drive — a small Italian-inspired bakery featuring in-house desserts, gelato, cannoli, and espresso. - ➤ Monday, May 18, Sarasota Orchestra announced an anonymous $11.7 million donation for its upcoming Music Center near Fruitville Road and I-75 (raising public gifts to nearly $87 million). The orchestra unveiled new design renderings ahead of a 2027 groundbreaking for a hall that will seat 1,800. Observer

- ➤ Pine View School for the Gifted graduated 181 students on Sunday, May 17 at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall where 1,200 guests attended. Sixty-two graduates are headed to UF & 31 to FSU, and class president Joe Calleja remembered the day with a speech about gratitude and chasing dreams. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ Sarasota County Schools announced Jamal Crook as Booker High School’s new principal effective June 1. Crook, who previously led Buchanan Middle School (Tampa) and served in other leadership roles, holds degrees from Murray State and Saint Leo and will foster academic excellence and community collaboration.
