  • Jacob Kinsel was honored with the Young Leaders Alliance Next Gen award on May 13 at University Park Country Club for his work with the Manatee Education Foundation and his community service.  Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sarasota's Dreamers Academy is launching its Dreamers Summer Academy, a free, four-week program in June for up to 100 third- to sixth-graders to boost language arts and math skills (supported by a $45,308 donation from The Henson Fund).   • Suncoast Polytechnical High School held its graduation for 146 Class of 2026 students on Friday, May 15 at the Sarasota Opera House (the largest class to date) where students planned to pursue careers in acting, construction, firefighting and college studies.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority said its 6-billion gallon reservoir (half full) now holds about eight months of water until summer rains help refill it before the end of summer, serving Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties near North Port.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida lawmakers are set to debate HB 5601 that would transfer USF Sarasota-Manatee’s budget and facilities to New College on July 1. Community leaders & educators say the move would remove a key resource for workforce training and affordable education and urge officials to block the proposal.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Ringling's landscape team is sharing tips on growing resilient roses as the garden recovers from hurricane and cold weather damage. They replanted with Rosa x fortuniana (a disease-resistant rootstock) and advise full sun and careful watering to help blooms emerge.  Sarasota Magazine
  • Savor Sarasota will run from June 1 to June 14 and feature prix fixe lunches for $25 and dinners for $45 at 55 local restaurants, with more expected to join.
