ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At least one person died when two vehicles collided overnight on Indiana Ave between Dearborn St. and Perry St. in Englewood+ the roadway was closed until 5 a.m. when the Florida Highway Patrol completed its investigation.  ABC 7

  • Today, barrier island hotels like Bungalow Beach Resort, Tropical Breeze Resort, and SeaHorse Beach Resort reopened after last fall’s hurricanes heavily damaged their facilities — some still offer limited services as rebuild plans continue.  Sarasota Magazine

  • Sarasota police raided three locations, finding crack, marijuana, spice, mushrooms, cash, and a Glock with ammunition — they arrested multiple individuals on charges including drug trafficking and firearm violations.  ABC 7

  • Long serving President Larry Thompson is retiring at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year after leading Ringling College’s transformation from a small regional school to a world-class art institute—his legacy includes major academic expansions and projects like the Sarasota Art Museum. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Sarasota now uses the Neighbors by Ring app to share important community notices and alerts—especially during hurricane season. City officials worked closely with Ring during Hurricane Preparedness Week so residents can get timely updates.  Observer
  • Governor Ron DeSantis has pledged to sign a bill that will block commercial construction like luxury lodges and tennis courts from Florida's 175 state parks. The bill passed unanimously earlier this year—its backing means the parks will stay open for hiking, camping, and bird-watching.  Z105

  • Between April 21—25, several residential properties in Sarasota, Siesta Key, Palmer Ranch and Nokomis changed hands, including a historic home at 1344 Harbor Drive selling for $4.4 million and a downtown condo at 1299 Tamiami Trail selling for $2.35 million. Other transactions ranged from $523,000 to $1.96 million, showing an active local market with properties built between 1948 and 2024.  Observer
