Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 4th of May.
Good morning, Sarasota.
On May 3, the 20th Annual Dick Vitale Gala—held at the Ritz Carlton—honored Michael Strahan among others to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
Strahan said the honor is deeply personal since his daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor but is now cancer free.
Today, Sarasota’s world-class Ski-A-Rees brings free water ski shows at 2:00 p.m. featuring expert skiers performing thrilling tricks over the water and in the air, with events continuing every Sunday through May 11 — held at 1602 Ken Thompson Pkwy and welcoming both youth and adults interested in water skiing and safety.
Conservation groups say linking habitats is important for keeping healthy air, water and soil in Myakka River State Park—helping animals like panthers and gopher tortoises move safely between natural areas.
However, human development has broken these connections, and efforts such as prescribed fire are used to keep vital habitats in good condition.
