  • Religious leaders on Longboat Key hosted a Faith 250 cleanup (with 60 volunteers) on April 18 at Temple Beth Israel; volunteers collected trash along Bay Isles Road and Gulf of Mexico Drive before joining a red-white-and-blue breakfast.  Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New College of Florida has turned around its enrollment and campus facilities as it reinforces a commitment to free speech — the campus now emphasizes open debate and rigorous inquiry amid recent criticism. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Jon Thaxton, a senior leader at Gulf Coast Community Foundation, urged residents on April 21 to cut single-use plastic as coastal wildlife faced growing risk — advising a return to reuse practices once common in Sarasota.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will launch the Cast for Cash program in July — offering Tampa Bay anglers $250 per recorded fishing trip for reef fish data — with applications due by June 17 for up to six trips through Sept. 2027.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In March, Sarasota’s real estate market had its first year-over-year gains as single-family homes reached a median sale price of $485,000 and condos showed price increases while inventory shrank and buyers took longer to decide. Manatee County saw strong single-family sales and a condo rebound amid slight price softness and reduced new listings.  Sarasota Magazine
