BUSINESS NEWS

  • Publix, which has more than 870 stores in Florida, is closed today for Easter—one of only three holidays the chain observes, while stores normally open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on other days.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • A 21-year-old Bradenton man died early Saturday when a driver lost control of a BMW on Northgate Boulevard in Sarasota—authorities said the driver and a front passenger sustained minor injuries.  ABC Action News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sarasota County will start a chlorine conversion process to update its water treatment—officials said more details on the project's timeline will be shared soon.  ABC 7
  • Since April, the USPS has implemented changes to streamline operations and cut costs—efforts include a voluntary retirement program that will remove 10,000 jobs and revised service standards that may delay some Florida mail. New refinements set to begin July 1 will adjust processing to save billions over the next ten years.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

  • Neal Shipley of Pittsburgh won his first professional tournament on April 19 at the Korn Ferry Tour Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch after a five-hole playoff with Seungtaek Lee.
