  • Jeff's Bagel Run, a national bagel shop chain based in Orlando, will open two new shops in the Sarasota area. The first shop at 14624 State Road 70 E.—set to open this summer—will be run by Sarasota natives Chris and Megan Matras.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sarasota artist Gil Elvgren painted more than 500 oil paintings of pin-up girls that appeared in calendars, ads and on military bombers — he lived and worked on Siesta Key from the 1950s until his death on Feb. 29, 1980.  Sarasota Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school baseball teams in Sarasota and Manatee counties started the 2025 FHSAA district tournament on Monday with quarterfinal games — championship games will be held Thursday — as local teams earned byes after strong regular season wins.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • The U21 Golf Croquet World Championship started on April 14 at Wellfield Park in Venice and will run until April 18 as players take turns to score the next hoop. Twenty-eight international competitors, including six from the United States, are showing their skill in this unique sport.  ABC 7
  • Tomorrow at Lakewood National Golf Club, 156 professional golfers will tee off in the LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour as they compete for a $1 million purse and a $240,000 top prize on Saturday.
