- ➤ Mom’s Book Nook donated more than 7,000 books to children over its first year, honoring founder Felicia Donson’s late mother and partnering with eight local groups to spread a love of reading throughout the community. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ On April 11, over 1,000 people ran on Siesta Key Beach for the 40th annual Run for the Turtles, organized by Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium to support its Sea Turtle Conservation & Research program. The event connected the community with conservation efforts along 35 miles of beach. Observer
- ➤ Maribeth Phillips, CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, is a finalist at the Women Who Win Awards Gala scheduled for Friday at The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg. - ➤ Ikea, the global furniture retailer, is opening a 48,000 sqft store this summer at UTC at 147 N. Cattleman Road (the former Rugs As Art location). The store will display 5,000 items and serve a Swedish deli menu. Observer
- ➤ Whole Foods Market will open its new store at 1451 First Street as part of a mixed-use development on the former Sarasota Square Mall site — a second location is planned nearby. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
- ➤ Dick’s House of Sport, an immersive sports retail concept from Dick’s Sporting Goods, will soon open at the Mall at University Town Center in Sarasota. The concept (which debuted at Freehold Raceway Mall on Oct. 31) shared photos in its announcement. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ Construction on the historic Mira Mar building will soon begin after the city issued a permit to transform it into Mira Mar Residences + twin 18-story towers with 70 bayfront condos + on Palm Avenue. The project, which replaces the former Caragiulo's Italian American Restaurant, will boost downtown living. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ At the Sarasota Open on Sunday, Bradenton's top seed Wu Yibing beat Stefan Dostanic in three sets on the clay court at IMG Academy, winning $17,000 after a two-hour match. Yibing will head to the Madrid Open next, while Dostanic prepares for the Tallahassee Open. Sarasota Herald-Tribune
