- ➤ Sam Goodwin, one of the few Americans freed by Syria’s Assad regime before its collapse, spoke at a Rotary Club event at the Urbanite Theater in Sarasota where he recounted his capture, 62 days in prison, and his near-complete quest to visit 193 countries. - ➤ A new NOAA report estimates Hurricane Milton caused more than $34 billion in damage—mostly in Florida—and said forecasts considerably underestimated its track and strength. - ➤ Golf fans in Lakewood Ranch will see the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic from April 16th to 19th at Lakewood National, where the tournament will use the Commander course—changing the nines for the event—to test players with hard holes. Officials say holes 1, 11, 12 and 16 will challenge golfers as wind may change play. Observer
- ➤ Voters selected Makenzie Pandelo as the top midseason hitter and Isabella Yazzetti as the best pitcher in local high school softball—both from Parrish Community.
