COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Sarasota County is hosting a community conversation on hurricane preparedness to help residents learn from local, state and federal experts. The free event will take place Saturday, Apr. 11 at Riverview High School (doors open at 9 a.m. and program starts at 10 a.m.). ABC 7
- ➤ Agape Flights broke ground on an expansion hangar in Venice—after receiving Planning Commission and city approval—to boost its ability to deliver supplies to Caribbean communities. The nonprofit plans to add larger aircraft in a later phase after five years of planning. ABC 7
- ➤ Sunshine Community Compost and Community Harvest SRQ have merged to form Sunshine Community Harvest, a new nonprofit supporting local food security and waste reduction in Sarasota. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sarasota Military Academy will combine its two campuses into one for fall 2028, adding advanced courses and a character development program (built with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society) to enhance its curriculum and staffing. Final plans are in development. ABC 7

- ➤ Selby Gardens botanist Dr. John L. Clark has discovered three new tropical air plant species at the Cerro Candelaria Reserve in Ecuador, naming them to honor local conservation supporters.
