On March 28, 600 children enjoyed Eggstravaganza in Waterside by collecting 10,000 candy eggs (organized by Lakewood Ranch Community Activities and Grace Community Church) as families joined in face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny (a local favorite).

Sarasota hosts many April events including the Spring Fling Easter Parade on April 4 in Newtown followed by an egg hunt on April 5, and the Film Festival from April 10-19.

Additional local festivals and shows extend into Bradenton on April 25.

Willie Taggart and the Taggart Family Foundation held the 941 Youth Legends Football Combine for local youth at Lincoln Park on Saturday, Mar.

28. Former NFL players Marlon Mack, LaJohntay Wester and Forrest Lamp joined the event to share their expertise.

The Longboat Key Public Tennis Center hosted a friendly end-of-season match on March 25, and center manager Kay Thayer said players enjoyed fast-paced games plus warm farewells from pros.

The event also celebrated the center’s 25th anniversary.

High school sports in Sarasota and Manatee counties provided key moments this week.

Sarasota County All-Stars won the boys and girls basketball games on March 28, and Venice advanced to the National Invitational final in Cary after winning three games (with MVP Sam Reindel and Jayden Brester leading the wins).
