  • ULA’s Atlas V rocket will launch from Cape Canaveral (3:53 a.m. ET Sunday, March 29) and may be visible from many Florida communities including Sarasota if weather permits.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

  • Anne and Bob Essner have been honored by the World Monuments Fund with its inaugural Stewardship Award for Modernist Homes for restoring the iconic Umbrella House on north Lido Key—Paul Rudolph’s landmark that now hosts local events and lectures. The award recognizes their commitment to preserving Sarasota’s mid-century modern legacy.  Observer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Florida gas prices saw a small decline this week from $3.934 to $3.879 a gallon, yet rising fuel costs are pressuring USPS to add an 8% fuel surcharge effective April 26 (pending Postal Regulatory Commission approval) and prompting airlines to raise fares.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 26, Sarasota and Tampa airports reported TSA wait times under 15 minutes despite a partial government shutdown that left TSA officers unpaid due to staffing shortages. Officials continue to recommend arriving two hours ahead of departures during spring break travel (SRQ benefits from the Screening Partnership Program).  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
