- ➤ Adeline has closed its acclaimed lunchtime gourmet sandwich shop, Little A, because dinner service needed extra kitchen space—co-owner Edward Zaki said the longer prep hours became too demanding for the team. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police Chief Rex Troche said Sarasota saw a 40% drop in crime over two years with no homicides inside city limits for the first time since 1967 even though seven murders in 2024 were solved by the police. He credited the decrease to a new Real-Time Operations Center that uses cameras and drones — and to community policing that reaches out to local youth. Observer

- ➤ Sarasota County enacted a burn ban yesterday due to severe drought conditions that raised the fire risk—county officials said all outdoor burning is banned when the Keetch-Byram Drought Index reaches 500—and cooking on grills remains allowed; the ban will lift once the index stays below 500 for seven consecutive days.
