- ➤ The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota serves as a launching pad for aspiring Black performers. Founded by Nate Jacobs, the theater offers rigorous training and youth programs designed to nurture local talent and expand African American storytelling. FOX 13

- ➤ Kiddie Academy of Sarasota will open its new Waterside Place facility on March 2 at 7290 Canon Street in Lakewood Ranch. The family-owned center, led by husband + wife Sanddy and Melodie Marchena, will offer safety features, outdoor play areas and classrooms for 204 children. Observer

- ➤ Marine units from the Venice Police Department and Sarasota Sheriff’s Office rescued an injured manatee showing cold stress lesions in the Hatchett Creek area this weekend. The animal was removed from the water by multi-agency crews and transported to ZooTampa for rehabilitation. ABC 7

- ➤ Sarasota Police honored officers with Life Saver Awards for their actions in two 2025 incidents. Officer Ryan Howell de-escalated a railing crisis on April 29 while Officer Shane Gaines administered CPR on Christmas Day during a medical emergency. Observer
