  • Retired K-9 Cody was honored yesterday with a final ride past police headquarters — celebrated for his loyal service with Officer Nick Dominus from 2014 through 2021. The 12-year-old dog’s career is remembered as a lasting legacy in the community.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sarasota Opera kicked off its 2026 Winter Festival on Feb. 14 with Puccini's La bohème and will present four operas through March 28 at its 100-year-old Opera House, which also hosts director DeRenzi’s final season after 44 years; he said he will announce his future plans on June 1.  Observer
  • Tripadvisor released its 2026 Travelers’ Choice Awards for best beaches yesterday — Florida beaches captured seven of the top 15 spots, including Clearwater, Siesta and St. Andrews State Park.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • Visit Sarasota County launched online guides & digital passes to promote 100-year celebrations across cultural sites and events in the county. The resources detail free heritage tours, concerts, and exhibits that invite locals and visitors to engage in the centennial festivities.  Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Suncoast Apprenticeship Academy secured a permanent facility at 5591 Fruitville Road to serve as its future training hub, with renovations scheduled to begin in the spring.
