  • Nearly 2,200 residents donated $4.2 million today through the Season of Sharing campaign to help pay for housing, electricity & childcare costs, with boosted totals from major local foundation gifts.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • Sarasota reclaimed the No. 10 spot in Florida’s boating hotspots today according to Getmyboat + the platform noted a 24% revenue increase from 60 rentals at an average of $113 per hour, mirroring its 2024 ranking.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • In Sarasota County, property tax revenue fueled public libraries last year, lending nearly 2.8 million items and drawing over 166,000 people to programs (free for all). Local officials say the funding keeps these vital services available to everyone.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brush fire near Ulman and Albin avenues off Tropicaire Boulevard was contained Saturday, though several homes experienced exposure; North Port Fire Rescue said it will update the situation later.  ABC 7
  • Sarasota County and Florida Forest Services are on scene for a brush fire reported yesterday at 12:35 p.m. at 13404 Wild Citrus Rd (official report).  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • State College of Florida hosted a free Healthy Smiles dental care event at its Bradenton campus on Feb. 7, offering dental exams, cleaning, fluoride treatment, X-rays, and oral health education for children (K-12) while parents were invited for complimentary hygiene care.  ABC 7
