  • Sarah Firstenberger took the helm as CEO of the Siesta Key Chamber in June and led the organization through its successful sand sculpting festival (the 15th-anniversary edition).   • Since its start in 1958, Ski-A-Rees has excited fans on Sarasota Bay with free water-ski shows — featuring flips, ballet skiing, and stunts — drawing 600 to 1,000 spectators on Sundays. The group is recruiting new members to keep its vibrant community tradition alive.  Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A dredging project to clear navigation hazards in New Pass and return navigational markers is underway as part of the Lido Key Beach renourishment project. USACE is deepening the channel using a hydraulic cutter-suction dredge while depositing sand on south Lido Key Beach (a multipurpose benefit for boaters and locals).  Observer

  • Publix Pharmacy is offering eligible customers a discount card for GLP‑1 medications like Wegovy and Ozempic, with tablet prices at $149 a month and injectables at $199 a month — customers should ask a pharmacist for details as terms may change soon.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
