  • Owner Karen Medford has opened a new Sirius Day Spa at Waterside in Lakewood Ranch. The soft opening is underway with a Celebration Soirèe scheduled on March 5 for full services — Medford fulfills a lifelong dream amid strong community support.  Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two exhibitions now open at Ringling College of Art and Design and Michael Saunders and Co. trace Sarasota’s post-World II artist colony history, displaying historical artworks and a 200-foot mural (showing a timeline of local creative achievements) that reveal how veterans nurtured the community’s arts scene.  Observer
  • All Angels by the Sea is getting ready for its 6th annual New to You art sale, which runs from Feb. 2 to Feb. 26 in Longboat Key. The event will feature around 250 donated pieces including works by Cat Tesla and Ilkin Deniz, with all proceeds supporting Turning Points of Bradenton.  Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Southwest Florida Water Management District announced that watering restrictions will take effect in 16 counties, including Sarasota, on Feb. 8 due to a 13-inch rainfall deficit. Residents must follow a new one-day-per-week schedule based on their address endings and property size through July 1.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • Longboat Key town officials are testing residue linked to the new SRQ flight path — a change made in 2024. They hired engineering firm Vertex to analyze ultrafine particles and noise issues and plan to meet with airport CEO Paul Hoback soon.  Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed measles cases in Hillsborough and Manatee counties today as part of an ongoing investigation; one case was acquired locally and the other is linked to international travel (details withheld due to privacy laws). They are tracking contacts and urging residents to review their vaccination status.  Z105

  • A Concession home on Parkstone Terrace sold for $2.88 million between Jan. 12 and 16, topping residential real estate sales in Lakewood Ranch; Jamie Worden sold the property to Denelle and Troy Johnson.  Observer
