COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch received $20,000 from the Bill and Maryann Vinall Fund through the Manatee Community Foundation to help cover $90,000 in veterinary expenses for animals like kitten Caliente and puppy Faze. The shelter still must raise $464,000 this year with help from dedicated volunteers and discounted partner care. Observer

- ➤ Michael Saunders & Co. has unveiled a 200-foot display behind its main office on Orange Avenue that honors Sarasota's visual arts colony from 1945 to 1965; the exhibit uses QR codes and memorabilia to educate visitors and spark conversation after a Jan. 16 event. Observer
- ➤ Mr. Swindle’s Traveling Peculiarium is an adults-only circus founded by Allison Blei and Ivan España that features daring acts and humor. The show is performing across Florida (from Englewood to Boca Raton) while giving back to the community with donations. Observer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At its Jan. 13 meeting, the County Commission approved the sale of McCullough Pavilion to Architecture Sarasota for $2.5 million. The historic building on S. Orange Ave, listed on local and national registers, will serve as the architecture group’s new home. Observer
- ➤ Sarasota’s Lido Beach is partially closed today for a $12 million renourishment project that moves sand along a 1.2-mile stretch to fortify the shoreline after 2024 hurricanes — the work will continue until April. Sarasota Herald-Tribune

- ➤ The Sarasota Style, a local lifestyle and clothing brand that celebrates Sarasota, officially opened last week at 410 St. Armands Circle. The store held ribbon-cutting events with local Chambers on Jan. 14 and 16 and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Observer

- ➤ During Jan. 5-9, residential property sales in Longboat Key, St. Armands, Lido and Bird Key included a Bird Key home on Mourning Dove Drive that sold for $5.1 million, topping the week. Several condos & houses changed hands at varying price points. Observer
