COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sarasota County began an $8.75 million makeover of historic Snook Haven in May, moving the 1958 restaurant inland for a new food concession, covered seating deck (offering Myakka views) and bandshell. The concessionaire partner will be announced this spring as renovations continue for a summer 2026 opening.  Sarasota Herald-Tribune
  • SARA President Chris Goglia explained that residents are surveyed annually to capture opinions on preserving the historic charm of St. Armands Circle—he noted that the new $13.5 million stormwater upgrade should boost local investment and curb unwanted high-density developments.  Observer
  • Longboat Key residents have a full slate of 2026 events, starting with the Garden Club reception on Jan. 13 and an MLK Jr. Shabbat on Jan. 16, followed by car shows, art festivals and holiday celebrations through Dec. 4 — offering a busy calendar of art, food and local tradition.  Observer
  • The Southwest Florida Premier Football Club helps make soccer affordable with nearly $100,000 in scholarships each year for over 1,600 young players — business owner Taylor Grismore sponsors the club so local kids have access to both competitive and recreational play.  Observer
